Message from Founder
Career Indaba® Magazine is founded on the belief that careers are among the most enduring records of economic and social life. They reveal how opportunity is created, constrained, and transferred across generations; how institutions evolve; and how individuals navigate work within changing labour-market conditions.
This inaugural edition introduces Career Indaba® as a labour-market intelligence and career pathways publication, a digital-first career archive documenting professional journeys across industries and sectors in Africa. It exists to create context, curate, and preserve the legacies that shape institutions, industries, and economic participation over time.
I am Khani Marivate, Founder and CEO of Career Indaba®, and Editor-in-Chief of this publication. My work has long focused on careers, talent and leadership development, labour-market strategy, high-performing teams, and institutional engagement across sectors.
Over the years, I have worked alongside professionals and organisations navigating career progression, workforce transitions, skills development, and leadership responsibility. What has become clear is that while employment data is abundant, the human context behind labour markets is often missing. We have statistics. What we lack is interpretation.
This inaugural edition sets the foundation for what follows. It brings together leadership journeys, sector perspectives, and labour-market intelligence that reflect the realities of worThis publication reflects a commitment to humanising the labour market by making visible the people behind the numbers and the structural forces that shape professional mobility, inclusion, and exclusion.
Africa’s economic story has been shaped by professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, women in leadership, and barrier-breakers whose journeys rarely enter formal archives. Their careers matter not only as inspiration, but as insight.
Career Indaba® is built as a living digital archive. Articles and interview-led conversations remain accessible over time, allowing readers, educators, and institutions to return to insight as careers and industries evolve.
